Queen Anne's Lace

This was a cool project we found. We picked some of the abundant Queen Anne's Lace that we have around here this time of year and tried to turn it different colours.
We tried blue, purple and pink.
The Blue turned out the best by far. The pink colour wasn't as strong although it definitely came through. The purple came through as well although it looked a lot like the blue. Next year we will try yellow or orange just to see what happens.
All in all a fun project with pretty results.

Doesn't our garden look lush :) We picked our first broccoli and it was so great - yum! I guess all this rain has been good for something. I will be very excited to see cucumbers soon. The giant pumpkins aren't going to be so giant this year I am thinking. They are only about the size of a marble so far....
We have been eating yummy mixed greens for a while now too(OK - only Pat and I like them but they are yummy). Zucchini too - one was a giant so we will have to turn that one into chocolate muffins or something.
The kids are enjoying the garden this year. We have it at Pat's parents place so every time we visit it there is something new. Very exciting.

Flea Market Fun

We finally got up to the Flea Market with Brenda and the girls. The kids had a blast riding all the ponies - and I mean ALL of them. They each picked out exactly who they wanted to ride each time. This is Ev on Sunny and Jenna on Champ. Caramel is still around too which is great. Jenna had her first pony ride ever on Caramel when she was about 18 mos or so.
Jenna learned that some people want to charge you a lot more than something is worth just because you show an interest ($12.00 for a Barbie that was rained on) and that if you move on others have a fair deal ($3.00).
We spent 4 hours here and could have stayed longer. However, we went up to the cottage to see what was going on. The dining room was missing the walls, ceiling and part of the floor. Construction is moving along. It will be so awesome when it is all done!

Ladybug?

Jenna found this cool little guy in her grandparents backyard. It isn't your typical ladybug. The colour was much darker and all of the black spots had a white ring around them - very cool!

Strawberry face

We finally went strawberry picking today. I think we actually waited too long as most of the berries were VERY ripe. The berry bears (aka Pat, Evan and Jenna) had a great time eating them.
It was a little disappointing to find them all mushy and moldy the next morning though. My hopes of making jam went out the window. At least we still have raspberries to look forward too!
